According to Deadline, Monster In My Pocket is heading to a live-action TV series from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Altar Rock Pictures.

Terence Carter and David Boorstein are signed to executive produce the project for Westbrook Studios, and Barbara Goldner and Josh Feldman will represent Altar Rock Pictures, while Joe Morrison and Maggie Morrison will work for Morrison Entertainment Group (MEG).

The popular toy line launched in 1989 and sold over 500 million figures globally. It was released by Matchbox and led to over 200 monsters in the collection that ranged from mythology, religion, fairy tales, and more sources.

To date, it was also developed as an animated TV special, comic books, a board game, trading cards, a Nintendo video game, and more.

David Boorstein, SVP, Head of Scripted TV at Westbrook, told Deadline, “We’ve seen a real thirst for projects rooted in nostalgia. Monster In My Pocket had such a major impact on our culture, and we’re excited to dive into the rich, captivating legends of these beloved characters, bringing new life to such an iconic brand alongside our partners at Altar Rock Pictures and MEG.”

Altar Rock Pictures Josh Feldman added, “Monster In My Pocket was my childhood obsession. It’s truly one of the last great independent toy brands. The Goldners and I are eternally grateful to Joe and the MEG team for entrusting us to shepherd one of their best brands.”

MEG’s Joe Morrison said, “Monster In My Pocket has been a part of my life for decades. I’m thrilled to now partner with Westbrook and Altar Rock as we reimagine the brand for a whole new generation.”

No information is available as of yet as to a timeline for series production or where it will be shown.
