Wonka wins the weekend at the box office

2023 is drawing to a close, and the studios are racing to get those last few dollars of the year.

First place went to Wonka with $39M, coming in just slightly under projections. It has taken in $112.4M in the foreign markets – where it has been open for slightly longer – for a global total of $151.4M.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes came in second with $5.8M; this gives it a new domestic total of $145.23M. It has taken in $145.14M in foreign markets for a global total of $290.38M.

Third place went to The Boy and the Heron with $5.17M for a new domestic total of $23.14M. It has already taken in $76.04M in the foreign markets for a global total of $99.18M.

Godzilla Minus One came in fourth with $4.88M for a new domestic total of $34.25M. It has taken in $23M in the foreign markets for a global total of $57.25M.

Fifth place went to Trolls Band Together with $4M for a domestic total of $83.08M. Overseas it has taken in $94.47M for a global total of $183.13M.

This week’s wide release are Anyone But You, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Iron Claw, Migration, and Salaar: Part 1 Ceasefire.
