Warner Bros. has named a new director to the Minecraft film. Peter Sollett (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Freeheld) will be taking on the directing duties on the long-gestating project.
Warner Bros. won the film rights to Minecraft in 2014, but since then there has been a revolving door of talent attached to the project. Previously directiong duties were to fall to Shawn Levy, Rob McElhenney, or Steve Carell. Each individual circles the project for a while and then something goes wrong and we reset with another director.
According to Variety, Sollett will take up the project which will see a teenage girl and an unlikely group of adventures must save the Overworld from the Ender Dragon.
Warner Bros. wants to turn Minecraft into a franchise, and with its history with The LEGO Movie, it might be able to, but the studio just needs to get something on the screen first.
