If there is one thing you can say about Kevin Smith, it’s that he has tenacity. He has had a completed script for Clerks III for some time now. He revealed everything was ready to move forward and close out his quarter-century saga, but then one actor decided to back out.
Smith didn’t reveal for some time who it was, but may people could guess who it was due to his past reluctance to work on Clerks II. Jeff Anderson (Randal) was the holdout, and Smith refused to move forward without him. When that happened, Smith turned his attention to Jay & Silent Bob Reboot which will be hitting the road this fall for a roadshow.
Now, it seems, things may be back in play on Clerks III. Smith and Jason Mewes did a signing this past weekend with Jeff Anderson, and they talked things out. According to a post from Smith on Instagram, that also included Anderson agreeing to return for the third and final Clerks movie.
We’re doubtful any form of contract was signed, but you can always hope that it is indeed coming together.
Smith has had several false starts over the past several years including a Mallrats II project that didn’t seem to come together. Will his luck turn around on Clerks III? We’ll just have to wait and see.
