Ed Asner – best known for the role of Lou Grant – has passed away at the age of 91.

Asner began his film and TV career in 1957 and went on to star in numerous television series, movies, and was a prolific voice actor for animated fare in both areas.
His career breakout moment came in 1970 as Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He remained with that series until the end of its run in 1977, and then continued on with the character from 1977 to 1982 in a spinoff simply entitled Lou Grant.
Younger generations will most notably remember him from his numerous jobs in animation including the voice of Carl Fredricksen in Up and as Santa Claus in Elf.
He still has work to come reprising the role of Carl Fredricksen in a series of shorts on Disney Plus entitled Dug Days.
Asner is survived by four children.
