Amid coronavirus fears, Disney has joined the list of studios that are delaying film releases.
Thursday has been a day of seemingly endless film delays. A Quiet Place Part II has been delayed to an unknown date. It was later announced that F9 has been delayed from May 2020 to April 2021. And all of this follows on from No Time to Die pushing back from April to Nov.
Disney later announced that it was going to be pulling three films from the upcoming schedule. Mulan (March 27) from Disney proper is the highest-profile film, while from Fox The New Mutants (April 3) will be delayed, and from Searchlight will be Antlers (April 17).
None of the films have new release dates as of yet.
Where the studios are going to move all of these homeless films remains to be seen. Release dates are chosen years in advance in some cases, so finding new homes for a single delayed film is rough at the best of times. Finding homes for this many films is going to unprecedented.
