West Side Story wins a quiet weekend at the box office

A musical took the top spot at the box office this weekend, but numbers are still now where they should be.

West Side Story took the top spot with $10.5M and globally sits at $14.9M.

Second place went to Encanto with $9.42M bringing its domestic total to $71.34M, and globally it sits at $151.84M

Ghostbusters: Afterlife took third place $7.1M. The domestic total stands at $112M and $164.59M globally.

Fourth place went to House of Gucci with $4.06M for a new domestic total of $41.03M. Globally it sits at $93.02M.

The Eternals landed in fifth place with $3.1M for a new domestic total of $161.21M. Globally it sits at $395.31M.

Exhibitor Relations Co. pulled the numbers for the same weekend in 2019 and the top film took in more than the top five this weekend did in total.

  2. FROZEN II ($19M)
  3. KNIVES OUT ($9M)
  4. RICHARD JEWELL ($4M)
  5. BLACK XMAS ($4M)

The next wide release is Spider-Man: No Way Home and Nightmare Alley on Dec. 17.
