Movies are having great opening weekends, but the numbers are dropping off significantly in the second weekend. This is commonly referred to a film having “legs.” Currently, very few films have legs and until they do, we won’t be seeing any sort of a return to the 2019 box office numbers.

First place went to Encanto with $12.73M bringing its domestic total to $57.95M, and globally it sits at $116.05M

Ghostbusters: Afterlife took second place $10.35M. The domestic total stands at $102.19M and $145.09M globally.

Third place went to House of Gucci with $6.77M for a new domestic total of $33.64M. Globally it sits at $67.24M.

Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers came in fourth with $4.1M for a domestic total of $9M.

Fifth place went to The Eternals with $3.93M for a new domestic total of $156.52M. Globally it sits at $384.32M.

The next wide release is West Side Story on Dec. 10.
