Venom was an instant hit when it was released in theaters early last month, and new numbers reveal just how successful the film has become. According to Box Office Mojo, Venom just crossed $676 million globally, which means a sequel is all but assured at this point.
The massive box office take also means Venom has surpassed Justice League ($657 million) at the box office. The numbers reveal an interesting dichotomy.
Venom wasn’t the greatest movie in the world, yet it has quickly become a smash hit with fans. You’d think the star power of Justice League would have translated to massive box office numbers, but that wasn’t the case. The film simply didn’t perform well.
Justice League’s disappointing take could have been a residual effect following the release of Batman v Superman, which was also a disappointment.
With Venom, Sony planned for the movie to kick off an entire universe of movies. In addition to the possibility of a Venom sequel, Sony is also working on movies for Morbius the Living Vampire and Kraven the Hunter.
Now, the question becomes: When will Tom Holland’s Spider-Man make an appearance?
