Disney Plus has released a Hamilton trailer ahead of the musical’s debut on Disney Plus on July 3.
Originally planned for a theatrical release in 2021, Disney decided to move the release of Hamilton up by more than 14 months, and to put it on its streaming service, Disney Plus. The service has now released a trailer giving us a taste of what to expect.
Filmed in 2015, Disney reportedly paid $75M for the film which is said to be filmed in a new, and unique way. There’s been no word on how exactly this was accomplished, but some press releases have said it may change how future productions are filmed.
The fact this was filmed in 2015 is important as it was filmed a few weeks before the departure of the original cast from the musical. Some of the cast featured in this production includes Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Anthony Ramos, Jonathon Groff, Okieriete Onaodowan, Jasmine Cephas Jones, creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Disney Plus recently announced that it has ended free trials of its service, so if you want to check out Hamilton, you will need to purchase a subscription.
