Netflix is giving you a lot more to think about if you’re a new or returning customer when you sign up. The old cheapest account is gone, making it much more tempting to sign up for an account with ads.

Netflix has done away with the old cheapest, ad-free plan for $9.99 a month. The plans presented to new and returning subscribers are as follows.

  • Standard, With Ads – $6.99 a month. Full HD and supports two devices.
  • Standard, No Ads – $15.49 a month. Full HD, supports two devices, allows downloads, and the option to add one member living outside the home for $7.99 a month.
  • Premium – $19.99 a month. Ultra HD and spatial audio, supports four devices, allows downloads, six supported devices, and the option to add up to two members living out the home for $7.99 a month per person.

For those currently on the $9.99 plan, you will get to keep it until you either change plans or cancel your account.

This change is likely due to the uptick in the company’s stock following the introduction of the ad-supported tier. The stock jumped 9% following the news that 25% of new subs had chosen the ad-supported plan.

“Our starting prices of $6.99 in the US and £4.99 in the U.K. [for Standard With Ads] are lower than the competition,” a Netflix rep told  Variety in a statement, “and provide great value to consumers given the breadth and quality of our catalog.”

Netflix does state that not all of its content is available in the ad-supported tier, but that “the vast majority of TV shows and movies are.” Estimates place it at around 95% of Netflix’s total content.
