If you were hoping to see the Powerpuff Girls in live action, it is sadly not happening any time soon.

Originally announced in 2020, a pilot episode was ordered by The CW in Feb. 2021. The cast was selected by March of that year and included Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup. The pilot was filmed, but then issues began to spring up.

The rumor was that it wasn’t quite what the network wanted, but they were willing to have a second pilot shot. In the middle of all this, the sale of The CW to Nexstar was taking place, and the new owners are taking the network in some new directions. In May of 2021, The CW officially passed on the series and released the rights back to Warner Bros. TV for it to be shopped around. Now, according to a report from TV Line, the project is completely dead and not moving forward in any fashion.

An animated reboot is in the works at Cartoon Network, with creator Craig McCracken attached to the project. So we may get to see the trio in action once again in animated form, but, for now, the dreams of live-action have definitely been dashed.
