Paramount Plus has announced that Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries) has joined the season 2 cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as Capt. James T. Kirk.
“Paul is an accomplished actor, an astonishing presence and a welcome key addition to the show,” executive producer Alex Kurtzman and showrunners/EPs Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers said in a joint statement. “Like all of us, he is a life-long Star Trek fan, and we are excited by his interpretation of this iconic role.”
How this will fit in with the general timeline of Star Trek remains to be seen. Unless Capt. Pike (Anson Mount) meets his inevitable fate in season 1 of the series, Kirk can’t take over the Enterprise as of yet.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1 is set to debut on Paramount Plus on May 5. A second season has already been ordered.
