Broadway theaters to remain closed through end of 2020

After a series of small steps back, it has been announced that Broadway theaters will remain closed through the end of 2020.

All Broadway theaters closed on March 12 of this year as the coronavirus pandemic continued to spread throughout the United States. That original announcement ran through April 12. Then, on April 8, that date was extended to June 7. The next change came on May 13 where the date was extended to Sept. 8.

Now the Broadway League is done playing games it would seem, and the closure is now extended to Jan. 3, 2021.

“We are determined to bring back the people who rely on this industry for their livelihood, and to welcome back all those who love this vital part of New York City, as soon as it is safe to do so,” League president Charles St. Martin said in a statement. “As so many of us in the Broadway community have been saying during this time: We’ll be back, and we have so many more stories to tell.”

None of this has happened without some casualties, however, most notably being the permanent closure of Frozen.

Will Broadway return in Jan. 2021? We’ll just have to wait and see.
