It was only a matter of time it seemed, but Marvel Television will be shutting its doors.
While Marvel’s television projects acknowledged the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the films and the TV shows were produced by separate divisions. When it was announced that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige would be overseeing the Disney Plus Marvel shows, the writing was pretty much on the wall.
Since that time it has been announced that Cloak & Dagger was canceled, and then Runaways is ending with season 3. Ghost Rider was killed off before it even began production, leaving the only live-action TV series down under Marvel Television still alive is the upcoming Helstrom.
There are also four animated series in the works at Hulu: Howard the Duck, Hit Monkey, M.O.D.O.K., and the currently troubled Tigra & Dazzler.
Due to the folding of the division, there will be layoffs and shuffling of various staff.
This move was a long time coming, but with the upcoming Disney Plus series actually factoring into Phase 4 of the MCU, it makes sense. The only question now is what will happen with the remaining projects.
