Paramount Pictures has announced that its Dungeons & Dragons movie will be entitled Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The studio has also announced that the film will hit theaters on March 3, 2023.
Based on the game created by Gary Gygax in 1974, the game has been a staple of role-playing fans ever since. In the last several years it has only grown in popularity and is enjoying more success than it ever has before. It was originally published by TSR, and was later purchased by Wizards of the Coast. Hasbro then acquired the company and is the current publisher of the brand.
The new film is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Game Night) and stars Chris Pine (Star Trek series), Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious series), Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton), Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant (Love Actually).
The film is written by Goldstein, Daley, and Michael Gilio with a story by Chris McKay. Producers include Jeremy Latcham, Brian Goldner, and Nick Meyer while Denis L. Stewart, Goldstein, Daley, Pine, Zev Foreman, and Greg Mooradian serve as executive producers.
There have been three previous films Dungeons & Dragons (2000), Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (2005), and Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness (2012). The 2000 film was released in theaters, the second on the Sci-Fi Channel, and the third was a direct-to-DVD release.
