Leiji Matsumoto, the creator of manga/animes such as Space Pirate Harlock and Galaxy Express 999, has passed away.

It was announced this week that Matsumoto had passed away at the age of 85.
His real name was Akira Matsumoto, and he began his career in 1953 with his first published work, Mitsubachi no Boken (Honey Bee’s Adventure). His big break came in the early 1970s with Otoko Oido which won him the Kodansha Publishing Award for Children’s Manga.
He would go on o international fame with his works such as his co-creation Space Battleship Yamato, and his solo creations of Space Pirate Harlock and Galaxy Express 999.
His popularity would even see him working with Daft Punk multiple times for their music videos.
His influence will be felt in both manga and anime for many years to come.
