Multiple sources are reporting that Gibson has left the series, and will only appear in the upcoming season, but not the 2024 Christmas special. The sources are saying a new actor has already begun shooting as a new unnamed companion and is being played by Varada Sethu (Andor).

Prior to being introduced in the 2023 Christmas Special as Ruby Sunday, Gibson was best known for playing Kelly Neelan on Coronation Street for three years.

Ncuti Gatwa will continue as the latest version of the Doctor and is said to be currently filming the 16th season in Wales alongside Sathu.

Both BBC and Bad Wolf – the production company behind Doctor Who – have offered no comments on the news.
