It appears Fox is expressing some interest in making a journey to the world of Two Moons with a new animated ElfQuest series.

Deadline has shared exclusive news that an Fox has given a script commitment for a one-hour animated series based on ElfQuest. Rodney Rothman and Adam Rosenberg’s Modern Magic are producing, while Susan Hurwitz Arneson (The Last Amazon) will write the series adaptation and serve as showrunner and executive producer should it go to series.

ElfQuest launched as an independent comic in 1978 from Richard and Wendy Pini under their own banner, Warp Graphics. The series follows various tribes of elves spread across the world of Two Moons, with the main focus being on a tribe called the Wolfriders who are led by Cutter. The series has had many spinoffs and been published by various companies over the years.

ElfQuest couldn’t be in better hands,” Wendy and Richard Pini said in a statement. “Our collaborators trust the story. We have the highest regard for their previous achievements, and they have our blessing and input. We know their adaptation of ElfQuest will be a dream come true.”

“Wendy and Richard created and sustained one of the most successful independent comics of all time,” said Modern Magic’s Rothman. “It’s vividly influenced many of our favorite movies and creators. Along with Susan Arneson, we see their achievement as a perfect jumping off point to explore how post-Spider-Verse animation can take the fantasy genre someplace we haven’t seen before. If you’re an artist who this speaks to, let us know. We’re looking for you.”

We do suggest that everyone keep a few things in mind here. THe biggest issue is there have been many attempts at adapting the comic and none of them have ever made it to film or TV. Secondly, this is a “script commitment,” meaning Fox has only agreed for a script to be produced and the network will take a look to see if it should go further. Only time will tell if this attempt will make it any further than previous ones have.
