Lucasfilm shared the news on Tuesday and says that TV series creator Jon Favreau will be directing the new film. He will be joined by Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni as producers on the project.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

No word as of yet as to the release date of the film. There is also no information on what this means for a potential fourth season of the TV series. Season 3 concluded on April 19, 2023.

This film marks the fourth planned theatrical film for Star Wars currently on the production schedule. The other three are being headed up by including films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni.
