Wonka wins a quiet weekend at the box office

The 2024 box office year kicked off quietly, down 13% from the same frame in 2023.

First place went to Wonka with $14.43M for a new domestic total of $164.65M. It has taken in $301.2M in the foreign markets for a global total of $465.85M.

Night Swim took second place with $12M. It took in $5.66M in the foreign markets for a global opening of $17.66M.

Third place went to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with $10.61M at the domestic box office for a new total of $100.02M. It has taken in $234.8M in the foreign markets for a global total of $334.82M.

Migration flew into fourth place with $10.25M for a new domestic total of $77.82M. It has taken in a further $72.88M in the foreign markets for a global total of $150.7M.

Fifth place went to Anyone But You with $9.5M, an actual increase of 9% over last week, for a domestic total of $43.71M. It has taken in $14.7M overseas for a global total of $58.41M.

The wide releases this week are The Beekeeper, The Book of Clarence, Mean Girls, and a rerelease of Disney’s Soul.
