Aquaman Goes Full Training Montage in Final Trailer

With just a month (and two days) left until Aquaman hits theaters, the final trailer has arrived to fill our eyes up. And once again, we’re left with our jaws open. This final trailer gives us a closer look at Arthur Curry’s journey from landbound loner to King of Atlantis. And it involves a training montage and lots of Willem Dafoe.

This last trailer does a great job of putting the whole Atlantean fantasy aspect of the movie on the marquee, showing the unique armor and weapons, the undersea ships, and the giant animals they’ll end up using as mounts during battle. We also meet Willem Dafoe’s Vulko, who seems to act as a guiding hand for Curry’s development, for the first time.

Aquaman was, for the longest time, the butt of jokes in the comic-book world. He was always the dorkiest hero in the silliest outfit. When they tried to make him cooler, we all spotted how transparent the effort was and kept laughing. If I can give DC and Warner Bros. credit for anything with the last few years of superhero movies, though, it’s that they finally got me to fever-pitch excitement for the Fish King. I wouldn’t have believed 10 or 15 years ago that I’d be putting Aquaman and Captain Marvel at the top of my gotta-see movie list, but here we are.

Aquaman hits theaters just in time for Christmas, on December 21, 2018.
