What is best in life? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to have a series on Netflix. Deadline is reporting that Netflix is working with Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media on a new Conan the Barbarian series that could be the first of several new properties.
Netflix is believed to have struck a deal with Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment, for the rights to develop both live-action and animated series and films based on the Conan properties.
Conan was created by writer Robert E. Howard and was first published in Weird Tales in 1932. In total, he created 23 completed Conan stories and four incomplete works before he passed away at the age of 30 in 1936.
The character was most famously portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Barbarian in 1982, and again in Conan the Destroyer in 1984. There have also been two animated series in the 1990s, a live-action TV series in 1997, and a rebooted film starring Jason Mamoa in 2011.
With the sort of production values Netflix lends to its productions, we could be in for an interesting series that will take us back to the age of adventure.
No word as of yet as to when the series may possible debut.
