Sony posted a note to the PlayStation website that has announced that its content deal with Discovery will soon be coming to an end.
As of 31 December 2023, due to our content licensing arrangements with content providers, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased Discovery content and the content will be removed from your video library.
We sincerely thank you for your continued support.
Thank you,
PlayStation Store
As you scroll through the page, you will find over 1300 seasons of various Discovery shows will soon be removed. Sony stopped selling new content August 2021, but at the time had told users they would be able to continue to access the content they had purchased. No expiration date was mentioned at the time.
This is a different situation than when games have been removed from the store. In most cases you are still able to access them, and even download them again if necessary. Losing access to your purchases seems to be exclusive to television and films.
There have been growing arguments to move back to physical media whenever possible, and this is definitely one of those times.
