Movie studios scrambling to grab 2023 release dates

August has arrived, and movie theaters are planning to make another run at opening up. The question still remains, however, as to what exactly they will show.

While there are still some movies on the slate, a lot more have moved back to 2021, and some even to 2022. With the uncertainty of the remainder of this year still hanging over everyone, studios are now racing to grab release dates in 2023 as a precaution of the schedule slipping even further back.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, studios are already trying to figure out how to move future movies even further out to give some more space in 2021 and 2022. With more and more movies piling into 2021, Paul Dergarabedian of Comscore said, “Next year is fast becoming a cage match.”

With more and more of the films of 2020 piling into next year, that leaves questions for the films planned for 2021. Several of them are already making moves to 2022, and that more than likely means some of the films for 2022 will end up moving to 2023, and that is how we arrive at these new dates.

It looks as though the studios are simply going to have to move everything back by one year at this juncture. Instead of the endless schedule shifts, this has seemed like the most logical way to handle things for some time.

Now the question becomes how many good dates are left in 2023.
