Pixar is expanding the Toy Story franchise with the origins of Buzz Lightyear in Lightyear.

Ever since the first Toy Story film, we knew Buzz Lightyear was based on a popular story in that universe, but we had no idea what it was. Now, Pixar is going to tell us this story with its new film, Lightyear.
As stories go, it’s an interesting idea to say the least. We can already see that the toy is a loose interpretation of the source material, and as someone who has been around toys for decades, it is so accurate to what happens in reality. A toy that is overly chunky? Been there time and time again.
When the concept was first announced, it seemed like an odd choice, but now we’re very intrigued by the concept.
Lightyear hits theaters on June 17, 2022.
