Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was always going to be more flash than substance, but then it took that idea overboard by recycling the franchise’s characters and tropes to become something even more dumb. Screen Junkies took the opportunity to go in on the flick in the latest episode of Honest Trailers, and to plainly put it, “Dumb finds a way.”
The trailer starts by pointing out the flash of the movie that is used to hide huge, gaping plot holes that just don’t make sense. Like how Owen and Claire completely swapped roles of caring animal activist and cold-hearted mercenary in between movies for no reason. Or how it recycled the paramilitary guy and half-baked kid roles from past installments of the franchise to an uncomfortable degree of laziness.
But then there’s the fact that it’s literally a carbon copy of The Lost World, down to every plot beat except for the limiting of the action of the third act to the cooped up house of an old man.
All kidding aside, we did enjoy Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom but we’re also aware it’s pretty dumb and the Honest Trailer perfectly sums that up.
