Whenever a comic-book character is brought to life, whether for big screens or small, the first question on every fan’s lips is “did they get the look right?” Batwoman is joining the Arrowverse this fall as part of the Elseworlds crossover, and guess what: they got the look right.
CW revealed today the first look at actress Ruby Rose as Batwoman, and more than any CW DC character – with maybe the exception of Supergirl – she looks like she was peeled right from the pages of her comics. Check out this gallery, and then scroll down for the full shot to see just how good she looks.
Batwoman’s public persona is Kate Kate. CW is describing her as “an out lesbian and trained street fighter primed to stuff out [Gotham City]’s criminal resurgence,” who must “overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.” She’s set to debut during this year’s CW Arrowverse crossover, Elseworlds, which includes Supergirl, The Flash, and Arrow. Legends of Tomorrow is doing its own thing, while Black Lightning continues on in its own universe.
While the entire network is preparing for the crossover, a Batwoman series is in the works, too, set to possibly premiere in 2019. Caroline Dries of The Vampire Diaries is writing it and executive producing with the usual line-up of Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and DC’s Geoff Johns.
While we’re sure to get some trailers ahead of the Elseworlds crossover, Batwoman’s full debut will be with The Flash on December 9, continuing with Supergirl and Arrow on Monday and Tuesday, each airing at 8 p.m. EST.
We’re excited to see Batwoman join the Arrowverse. Not just because it potentially means Batman could be in the channel’s future, but because Kate Kane is one of DC’s most interesting characters on her own. December 9 can’t get here fast enough.
