Prime Video has rescinded the second-season orders for A League of Their Own and The Peripheral due to the ongoing strikes.

It felt as if it was only a matter of time until networks and streaming companies started to cancel series, and it was only a question of who would go first. Amazon’s Prime Video has made the decision to rescind the second season renewals for both A League of Their Own and The Peripheral due to delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

A League of Their Own had been ordered for an abbreviated four-episode season that would have also closed out the series. The Peripheral had received a full season order.

According to a report from Deadline, the decision as made as the length of the strikes had meant the series would miss their start dates to begin filming. This would have pushed the seasons out of being released in 2024 and into 2025 and would have been to long since their first seasons as well as causing a pile-up of content.

While the WGA and AMPTP have begun negotiating once again, reports indicate there is still a significant amount of distance between the two sides on numerous issues. It seems unlikely either strike will end before Labor Day, and that has been considered a ‘drop-dead date’ by many analysts for when the studios will need to make a lot of decisions about projects that are in the works.

In short, don’t expect these to be the last stories we hear about series simply disappearing.
