Universal Pictures announced on Thursday that it was changing up its release schedule once again as the movie industry tries to regain its footing in the seemingly waning days of the pandemic. First up, F9, the ninth installment in the Fast & Furious series is moving from May 28 to June 25. F9 was one of the first movies to push back in the opening days of the pandemic. With its new move we may see a few more small shifts.
Meanwhile, Minions: The Rise of Gru is moving back a full year. It was scheduled for July 2, 2021, but will now open on July 1, 2022.
Both films were originally scheduled to be released in 2020, but the Coronavirus pushed the majority of films from the year back to new release dates. Movie theaters are beginning to reopen in locations such as New York City, but to limited capacity. This will give some much needed cash infusions to the industry, but there is still a long road ahead to be sure.
