To prevent spies from spoiling the final season of Game of Thrones, HBO allegedly utilized “drone killers” to be on stand-by during shooting—and, no, they didn’t use Drogon to reign hellfire.
Instead, the crew on set would use an electronic device capable of disabling drones mid-flight, making them inoperable and therefore unable to relay spoilers back to paparazzi.
The tidbit came by way of actor Sophie Turner, who revealed the news last week.
“If a drone flies above sets, there’s a thing that can kill the drones, which is really cool,” Turner explained. “It creates a field around it and the drones just drop. It’s very X-Men.”
The device capable of grounding drones is said to have the appearance of a gun and has a range of nearly half a mile, making it difficult for people to spy on the show’s set.
In addition to enlisting these so-called drone killers, it was reported HBO also used disappearing scripts, Mission: Impossible-style. With the highly anticipated show not expected to return until next year, you can understand why HBO is so protective of spoilers.
