According to a report from Variety, everything you think you knew about upcoming Star Wars movies can be thrown out the window. Despite several highly visible film announcements, it seems that with the exception of one film, they have all been pulled from Development.
Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) was announced to direct Rogue Squadron in Dec. 2020. In Dec. 2022 the film was quietly pulled from the studios plans. Now, sources speaking with Variety say the film has been totally removed from active development.
Kevin Feige, the mastermind behind the successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, was in development of a Star Wars film as well. Now sources are saying that film has also been pulled back and is doubtful to ever be made.
Rian Johnson’s planned trilogy is said to be floating around the offices somewhere, but no word on if it will ever actually see the light of the day.
The only previously announced film to still be in any form of development is the one slated to be directed by Taika Waititi, but with a new wrinkle: The creative is now said to be in talks to have a role in the film as well. This, of course, won’t be his first time acting, but it would be a first for someone working on a Star Wars film to pull double duty like this.
Star Wars Celebration is set to take place in London in April, and new announcement about the theatrical future of Star Wars are expected to be made there.
