Spiral took the spot at the box office with $8.72M. While that may sound good, as Exhibitor Relations puts it, “To give you an idea of how poorly SAW: SPIRAL ($8.7M) opened this weekend, let’s remember that deep in the heart of the pandemic last August, with maybe 30% of theaters open vs. 65% today, THE NEW MUTANTS debuted with $7M.” In other words, this was a very weak opening and one that rightfully may cause some concern.
Second place went to Guy Richie’s The Wrath of Man with $3.74M. It stands at $14.6M domestically and $41.84M globally.
Those Who Wish Me Dead took third palce with $2.8M.
Fourth place went to Demon Slayer The Movie with $1.85M for a new domestic total of $42.02M. Combined with its international haul, the film sits at a global total of $477.02M.
Raya and the Last Dragon rounded out the top five with $1.71M this weekend. It now stands at $46.12M domestic and $107.03M globally.
The next wide releases Cruella and A Quiet Place II on May 28.
