Michael Waldron has signed a new deal with Disney, and it includes a journey to a galaxy far, far away.

Waldron has been a busy man around the Disney offices of late having written the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and being the head writer and executive producer on Loki for Disney Plus. According to Deadline, he has signed a new overall deal with the studio, and his first project will see him tackling Star Wars.

It was announced back in Sept. 2019 that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was developing a Star Wars film for Lucasfilm. No details were shared at the time, and things have been fairly quiet since then. Now, after a chance to work together on other projects, it appears that Feige has tapped Waldron to write the film for him.

Waldron is also expected to return for Loki season 2, so it appears that he will be quite busy for some time to come. It sounds as though the film will probably be written next, but there has been absolutely no mention of a timeline for it to be released. The next Star Wars film with any sort of release date right now is Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron which is scheduled for release on Dec. 22, 2023. The assumption is that Feige’s film will release sometime after that.

Right now the Star Wars universe is very firmly focused on the various Disney Plus series, but it sounds as though we will be heading back to the theaters
