The reports of Magnum P.I.‘s death have been greatly exaggerated it seems as NBC has come to the rescue.

Following the cancelation of Magnum P.I. at CBS following its fourth season, the series has now been picked up by NBC. This had been reported as the most likely scenario as Universal produces the series and also owns the NBC network.

According to Deadline, the renewal is 20 episodes to be split over two seasons. All of the cast is expected to return with the deal going down to the last minute on their current options on June 30.

The series has ranked in the top 25 broadcast television series as of late, and will actually clock in as the fifth-highest ratings for NBC once it moves over to the network.

There has been no announcement as of yet if the series will return int he fall or be held to mid-season.
