Pirates of the Caribbean is reportedly getting a reboot, and it looks as though Karen Gillan may be the one to set sail.
The Pirates of the Caribbean series has seen diminishing returns for some time, and there has been a lot of talk of rebooting the films. Now, according to The DisInisder, Walt Disney Pictures is reportedly looking for a female lead for the series, and it may be Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Jumanji).
As of right now it is unclear if any formal talks have been held with Gillan, but the story says that her name is at the top of the list for the studio. This would also play into the rumor that the film may focus on Redd, a female pirate character that does Meet & Greet events with guests at the parks.
Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Ted Elliot (Pirates of the Caribbean series) are currently working on the details of the rebooted series and setting the tone for the new direction of the films.
Gillan has been making a name for herself as an action star with the Jumanji films and her turns as Nebula in various parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s already in the Disney fold, so this would be an easy extension of that relationship.
