The Evil Dead series is getting a fifth installment, but it’s not a sequel to any of the existing films. It also will not feature the return of Bruce Campbell to the role of Ash. The new film is written and directed by Lee Cronin and will see the story moving into an apartment building.
In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.

This is the red band trailer which ups the gruesome parts.
The new film was originally envisioned as a project to be released on HBO Max, but current leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery has been ditching those plans on a per-project basis. Thankfully, this film survived the culling, while films such as the nearly completed Batgirl was ditched completely and sent to the company vaults as a tax write off.
Evil Dead Rises will hit theaters on April 21, 2023.
