Equalizer 2 managed to find its way to the top of the box office in a surprise win for Sony Pictures.
Equalizer 2 took the top spot this weekend in a surprise move that few, if any, analysts predicted. The Denzel Washington action film took in $35.82M off of a $62M budget.
Second place went to Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! with $34.38M off of a $75M budget. This was actually the expected winner this week, and it was close, but no crown this time around.
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation took the third place in its second weekend with $23.15M for a new domestic total of $91M and a global total of $144M off of an $80M budget. It is still running ahead of the second film.
Fourth place went to Ant-Man and the Wasp with $16.12M. The new domestic total sits at $164.62M and $353.52M globally. Have to say we thought this one might fare a little better than this.
Incredibles 2 rounded out the top five with $11.52M. It now sits at $557.33M in the U.S. and globally it has hit $940.43M.
This week’s releases include Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Teen Titans Go! to the Movies.
