The Straw Hat Pirates are going to be ready to set sail for a potential season 2 sooner than you may think.

One Piece has been hitting the Netflix charts for a week already, and has been pulling in good reviews as well as new fans to the story of the Age of Pirates. Netflix hasn’t announced a season 2 renewal as of yet, but it seems that hasn’t deterred the production company from getting ready.
Speaking with Variety, Marty Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios said of a potential second season, “We’ve got scripts ready.” He went on to add, “Realistically, hopefully, a year away, if we move very quickly, and that is a possibility. Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready for air.”
This is, of course, reliant on Netflix renewing the series as well as when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes can be resolved. Until then, no work will be able to progress.
At an estimated cost of $18M per episode for One Piece, we’ll have to wait and see if the series’ viewership numbers are strong enough to justify the cost. The streaming service has demonstrated in the past that it is skittish to high costs for second seasons, so fans will just have to wait to see what the company decides.
One Piece season 1 is currently available on Netflix globally.
