Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 took the top spot at the box office, but there were some definite caveats to the win.

First place went to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with $114M domestically and $168.1M in the foreign markets for a global opening of $282.1M. For comparison, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 took in $146.5M domestically in its opening weekend in 2017. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opened with $187.42M on the same weekend in 2022.
The Super Marios Bros. Movie took in $18.6M to come in second, bringing its domestic total to $518.12M. It has taken in $641.11M in the foreign markets for a global total of $1.159B.
Third place went to Evil Dead Rise with $5.73M for a new domestic total of $54.1M. It has taken in $60.7M overseas for a global total of $114.8M.
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret came in fourth with $3.38M for a new domestic total of $12.64M.
Fifth place went to Love Again with $2.42M.
The wide releases this week are Book Club: The Next Chapter, Fool’s Paradise, Hypnotic, Knights of the Zodiac, and Rally Road Racers.
