After years of false starts and abandoned projects, Sony’s popular Twisted Metal gaming franchise is coming to live-action. Peacock has announced that the series will debut on July 27, and to celebrate the service shared a teaser trailer.

Anthony Mackie (Falcon and the Winter Soldier) will star in the series as John Doe, “a mother-mouthed outsider.” He will be joined by Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Quiet, Thomas Haden Church (Wings) as Agent Stone, Richard Cabral as Loud, and wrestler Samoa Joe as Sweet Tooth while Will Arnett (Arrested Development) as his voice. Guest stars will include Neve Campbell (Scream), Mike Mitchell, Tahj Vaughns, Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live), and Lou Beatty Jr.

Twisted Metal, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

Twisted Metal will debut all 10 episodes on July 27, 2023.
