It’s official: CBS isn’t ready to say goodbye to the Big Bang Theory franchise yet and has ordered a new spinoff.

Young Sheldon is coming to an end this season, but it seems Sheldon’s family will be sticking around for a bit. CBS has announced that a new spinoff focusing on the characters of Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) has been ordered to series for the Fall 2024 season.
Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland will executive produce the new series, which has not yet received a title.
“It has been a privilege to spend the last seven years with Sheldon and the Cooper family and now this wonderful journey will continue with Georgie and Mandy,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “Chuck and both Steves have done a masterful job developing these characters and entertaining generations of fans with relatable, heartwarming stories brought to life by Montana and Emily. We eagerly look forward to the next chapter in this beloved universe.”
“From the Big Bang Theory to Young Sheldon, the world of the Cooper family has been incredibly special to us,” said executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland. “We’re very excited to continue their stories through the eyes of Georgie and Mandy.”
There will be one large change, however, from Young Sheldon, which will be a return to a multi-camera format for the franchise.
The Big Bang Theory revealed that Georgie has been married twice, meaning his marriage to Mandy would not last, but there is a lot of runway time-wise for the series to play with.
No word as of yet if any other characters would appear in the new series, but it’s hard to imagine we wouldn’t see them drop in from time to time.
There is another Big Bang Theory spinoff in the works at Max, but it is not known what the concept is.
While sitcom spinoffs aren’t common today, they were once a staple of the network landscape. All in the Family was the launching pad for both The Jeffersons and Maude. Cheers led to the launch of Frasier, and while it didn’t launch Wings, they did share a universe. There were many more examples over the years, but it is no longer a common practice.
Young Sheldon‘s final season debuted on Feb. 15. A one-hour series finale will air on May 16 at 8pm Eastern on CBS.
