Disney has announced that filming has begun on Star Wars: The Acolyte. This new series is set during the waning days of the age known as “The High Republic,” a time hundreds of years before The Phantom Menace. It is a time when the Jedi Order was at the height of its powers, and long before the machinations of Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine. This time period has been explored in comics and novels, but this will be the first time we have seen it in live-action.

In addition to announcing filming has begun, the full cast of the series was revealed. Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) was previously announced as the series lead and she will be joined by Emmy Award-winner Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.
