Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is not even in theaters yet and Sony is already considering a sequel and a possible spinoff for the animated flick, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Joaquim Dos Santos, who has previously worked on the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender and Voltron, is set to direct the Into the Spider-Verse sequel.
Meanwhile, Lauren Montgomery, who also worked on Voltron and Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, is in talks to direct the spinoff that will focus on female heroes within the Spider-Man universe. Details aren’t clear about what the spinoff will revolve around, but the belief is that it’ll focus on Spider-Gwen with Spider-Woman, Madame Web, Spider-Girl or Silk possibly being considered as well.
Sounds like Sony has big plans for the animated branch of its budding Spider-Man franchise. It’ll all start with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse when it swings into theaters December 14.
