Furiosa leads a quiet Memorial Day weekend at the box office

The summer box office is continuing a slow rollout with another top film coming in under estimates.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga opened to $25.5M, coming in well under the projections. This was the lowest box office total for a film opening on Memorial Day weekend in nearly 30 years (Casper in 1995 opened to $25.5M). It took in an additional $33.3M in the foreign markets for an opening total of $58.85M.

Second place went to The Garfield Movie with $24.77M. It has been in the foreign markets for a few weeks now, so its global total sits at $91.07M.

IF dropped to third with $16.1M for a new domestic total of $58.66M. It has taken in a further $40M in the foreign markets for a global total of $98.66M.

Fourth place went Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with $13.35M for a new domestic total of $122.8M. It has taken in $172M in the foreign markets for a global total of $294.8M.

The Fall Guy landed in fifth place with $5.92M for a new domestic total of $72.21M. It has taken in $71.61M in the foreign markets for a global total of $143.82M.

The wide releases this week are Ezra, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, In a Violent Nature, and Summer Camp.
