The Academy Awards are barely over, and already people want to know what Christopher Nolan’s next film is. The man-of-the-moment took him Oscars for Best Director and as a Producer on Oppenheimer, so he is in-demand at the moment. What isn’t known is what project he will move on to next, and studios are already starting to line-up to try to win distribution rights to it.

According to Variety, Nolan may be returning to an abandoned project that would see him re-imagine the 1960s TV series The Prisoner. The original series was created by Patrick McGoohan, a former secret agent who wakes up in a mysterious town called The Village where everyone is merely issued a number, and works towards a collective goal.

Running for only one season of 17 episodes, The Prisoner is the definition of a cult TV series with fans still speculating over the nuances of the story over 50 years after its finale aired.

Nolan was attached to a remake in 2009, but then a six-part TV remake was released by cable channel AMC, killing the momentum of the film. Enough time has now passed that the director may be interested in giving it another go.

Anyone who has watched the TV series may wonder how you do this story as a film, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s mote than likely Nolan.
