The Broadway musical version of Mean Girls is heading to movie theaters, and now it has found its cast. The film was announced in Jan. 2020, just in time for the world to come to a screeching halt. It was then announced the stage version would not return to Broadway theaters following the pandemic, and that left some big questions about the future of the film as well.

But all is not lost as the cast of the film was announced on Friday. Angourie Rice(Spider-Man trilogy), Auli’i Cravalho (Moana, Crush), Jaquel Spivey, and Reneé Rapp (em>The Sex Lives of College Girls) will be taking on the main roles.

Rapp previously played Regina George in the Broadway version of the production and will be returning to the role. Rice will be taking on the lead of Cady, Cravalho will play the acerbic Janis, and Spivey will be playing Damien.

Lorne Michaels will once again produce, and Tiny Fey will be taking her third turn at the script following the original film and the musical.

Tina Fey’s 2004 comedy Mean Girls went on to be a cult hit. This then led to it being turned into a hit Broadway musical.

This isn’t the first time that a story has gone from film to Broadway back to film. One of the most notable incidents would be Jon Waters’ Hairspray.

No word on a potential release date.
