Things look bleak for Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist to continue on NBC, but thanks to strong digital numbers, a possible move to Peacock was considered. Despite strong numbers on the first two seasons on Peacock, the streaming outlet decided to pass on a season 3.
In the confusing world of television rights and ownership, however, that may mean the series isn’t done yet.
Despite airing on NBC, the series is actually owned by Lionsgate TV. As it is now released from its network, that means it can be shopped around to other outlets. “In a world where finding loyal and passionate audiences is never easy, we believe there must be a home for this great, award-winning show with a passionate and dedicated following,” a Lionsgate spokesperson said in a statement.
A similar situation happened with Lucifer after it was canceled by Fox. It was able to move on to Netflix at nearly the 11th hour of the actor’s options expiring. And before that, it was Longmire.
As of right now, there are no indications of where the series could move, but with streaming services all looking for content, odds seem good for some discussions to happen over a series that is already popular digitally.
