The box office is sending very conflicted data as to how it is going to handle the summer, but it is clear nothing is settled at the moment.

First place this weekend went to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It with $24.01M. Globally it sits at $57.13M, coming in well over projections.
A Quiet Place: Part II second place with $19.5M for a new domestic total of $88.61M, and a global total of $118.18M. The 59% drop this weekend is a definite cause for concern as it raises questions about what sort of legs films are going to have at the theater as we wait for the return of consumer confidence. We could be seeing a lot of very heavy frontloading (the first weekend of a movie) far more than usual.
Third place went to Disney’s Cruella with $11.24M for a domestic total of $43.68M. Globally it sits at $87.08M, and there is already talk of a sequel.
Spirit Untamed opened in fourth place with $6.2M.
Rounding out the top five was Raya and the Last Dragon with $1.3M. It now stands at $53.52M domestic and $114.13M globally.
The next wide releases are In the Heights and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway on June 11.
