The Little Mermaid swims to the top of the weekend box office

Disney has proben once again that live-action remakes of its animated films work at the box office.

First place this weekend went to The Little Mermaid with $95.5M domestically. It took in $68.3M in the foreign markets for a global 3-day opening of $163.8M.

Fast X came in second this week with $23M for a new domestic total of $107.95M. It has taken in $399.3M at the foreign markets for a global total of $507.26M.

Third place went to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with $19.95M for a new domestic total that now sits at $299.42M. It has taken in $431.6M in the foreign markets for a global total of $731.02M.

The Super Marios Bros. Movie took in $6.27M to come in fourth, bringing its domestic total to $558.88M. It has taken in $717.82M in the foreign markets for a global total of $1.276B.

Rounding out the top five was the debut of The Machine with $4.9M.

The wide releases this week are Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Boogeyman.
